Artist Gill Wright works from her studio in Saltburn-by-the-Sea in the UK, creating
unique fashion art prints that tell captivating style stories to suit contemporary interiors.
She also accepts commissions for a variety of clients and has worked on editorial
and product illustrations as well as portraits and branding.
She graduated from the University of Northumbria with a BA(Hons) in Fashion Design
in the early nineties and has since expanded upon a twenty-four year career combining Fashion Design, Graphic Design and Illustration by launching independently.
Gill remembers her fashion roots fondly:
“The first Paris show I ever saw was as a student in the early nineties:
Commes des Garçons. I think I struck lucky. The combination of collection, models
and music seriously moved me to tears. I knew I was doing the right degree.
Making notes, sketching shows and creating shop reports was a huge part of
my daily creative process and I loved bringing all of that together with illustration.
The collections that inspired me deeply were always those in which I perceived the
woman as quietly confident in her style and one of my proudest moments on showing
my own degree show was when Iain R Webb described my collection in The Times as 'shamelessly cool and elegant’. I really felt I’d achieved what I set out to do
in portraying the women I’d admired so much on other catwalks.”
Today, Gill is inspired by fashion and “all things design” working with a variety
of media from charcoal and watercolour to inks and acrylics with some collage
and is always exploring new techniques. She has the ability to capture a mood with
the sketch of an eye and her focus is always the individual sophistication of the subject.
With her high end quality Giclée prints, Gill’s mission is to help those wanting
a little sophistication in their home or environment with something that
expresses their individuality and uniqueness.
“My style is all about bridging elegance and sophistication with confidence and individuality and I believe strongly in offering beautiful, quality art that lasts. My Giclée prints use archival inks on acid-free Hahnemühle Fine Artstock so they are designed for life”.
And there are plans to expand:
“I want to enhance the style of my discerning customers and their homes by developing
my range to offer broader fashion and lifestyle choices. I’ve so many ideas!”
GILL'S WORK & COMMISSIONS
Of course, Gill's background means that she is also used to problem-solving by fulfilling
a creative brief and she enjoys a wide variety of commissions, fashion and otherwise, working on editorials, displays and interior collaborations alongside her personal print range.
“Working on commissions keeps me on my toes as I have to fulfil a brief. I enjoy
that challenge as I’m used to it after working in busy fashion and graphic design studios
for many years. I love being able to help someone with a design solution. It’s also a healthy contrast with my personal work where I’m able to be totally self-indulgent creatively. Thankfully others benefit from both!”
